Log Home Caulking

Joint Design for Caulking
Some Notes on Joint Design
Caulking joint width should be between 1/4" and 2" and 4 times the anticipated movement. For joints 1" or more, the depth should be 3/8" to 1/2". The depth of joints less than 1" wide should be half the width but no less than 1/4". (Caulking joint depth should be 1/4"-1/2".)

concealConceal Textured Caulk delivers performance that's hard to see. Conceal’s 7 colors blend in with the most popular stains used on log homes, and Conceal’s light texture simulates the natural roughness of wood. The combination of color and texture makes it hard to see where the caulking ends and the logs begin. Instead, they just blend together. Although the caulking is hard to see, Conceal delivers performance. Application Temperature: 40°-90° F.
Clean-up: Soap and water.

Additionally, Conceal:
• Is resistant to rainfall in 1-4 hours
• Has a limited lifetime warranty
• Has superior elongation, memory, and adhesion
• Excellent for filling and concealing checks

Puttylastic is an excellent, all-weather, bronze-colored log home construction caulk. Unlike other caulks, it is not as sensitive to adverse weather conditions, has better tube stability, and possesses qualities that are more suited to the unique nature of log homes. Puttylastic is designed to “cure” extremely slow. Its distinguishing feature is its ability to provide a soft, mobile seal. Puttylastic is designed for internal sealing. Rubberized caulks rely on two-point contact for maximum stretch, flexibility, and seal. But any caulk used for internal joint sealing will encounter multiple points of contact, not the two point contact required for the successful seal of a rubberized caulk. Unlike harder rubberized caulks, Puttylastic is naturally suited for multiple point sealing because of its semi-fluid, self-sealing nature that tends to flow with log movement instead of resisting it. Puttylastic is freeze-thaw stable and has a 5 year shelf life when properly stored. Clean-up: Mineral spirits.
