Compression Springs are used with either spikes or lags to add preloaded strength to areas that would benefit from added compression strength. Especially, high-shrinkage areas where there is not enough log mass to help pressure the logs in place, such as above windows in the header areas. Use 1/2" for lags and 3/8" for spikes.
