Thru-Bolt Springs are similar to compression springs but used on thru-bolts that run “through” the vertical length of the log wall. Pre-loaded springs put constant pressure on the logs, which is slowly absorbed as the logs shrink over time. Thru-Bolts are useful in hurricane and tornado regions and mountain areas where extreme high winds exist. Springs can be utilized at the top log of the wall or at the bottom if you have a crawl space. Previously, to be completely effective, you had to tighten the thru-bolts several times each year!
